Lenexa Civic Center

The Lenexa Civic Center is a 67,000-square-foot, multi-use government facility designed to bring city services, education, and community gathering spaces together under one roof in the heart of Lenexa.

Leigh + O’Kane served as the Engineer of Record for this four-story civic landmark. The building is thoughtfully programmed, with City Hall located on the fourth floor, higher education spaces on the third floor, and the Lenexa Public Market anchoring the first two levels, creating a dynamic and highly accessible public environment.

The structural design supports both the building’s functional demands and its architectural expression. Key features include a 90-foot clear span truss supporting the community forum used for all City Council sessions, a composite beam and slab floor system throughout the elevated levels, and a 100-foot pedestrian tunnel connecting the parking garage to the lower level. A sloping wall with a parabolic cut-out adds architectural complexity and required careful structural coordination.

The Lenexa Civic Center reflects how thoughtful structural engineering supports civic engagement, innovation, and long-term community use.
